Emily Rose was involved with art, literature, theatre, dance and music from an early age. Her mother Janice taught English, drama and dance at a college at their home-town in Lancashire. Testing out her acting skills, Emily would feign illness every time her mother had a dance or theatre production on, so she could stay off school and help back-stage or in part of the show.
As a teenager and not fitting into the school system, she would prefer to attend youth theatre classes and circus skills at the local youth club. On leaving school she took part in a General Art and Design BTEC course at college.
Following this Emily’s interest in alternative education took her to Lancaster to study Community and Youth Studies. During this time, Emily went to Ireland to take a work placement as a youth arts worker. At a festival in Mayo Emily saw Captain Bobs Circus in the summer of 1994. This was the turning point and inspiration for the future! Captain Bobs show was set in and around a Double Decker bus where the performers would juggle fire from the top to the middle and in front of the bus. Fire breathers, fire-spinners and acrobats turned Emily’s head that night with their wonderful show of skills and excitement.
Continuing to work within alternative education, Emily was employed by S.Lakes Council to drive and operate their Double Decker Play bus. She worked with hundreds of families for four years developing play opportunities and facilitating art, music, drama and circus skills in rural areas and council estates.
The next progression was to work with John Paul’s traveling Circus on the ‘Big Fun Tour 2001’. The tented tour travelled around Wales, England and Scotland with a professional circus theatre show, inspiring thousands of young people and children through circus workshops delivering clowning, acrobalance, juggling, unicycle and stilt walking. Emily had her first taste of trapeze on the tour and from then on was hooked! There was no turning back!
On a years working visa to Australia in 2002 - Emily trained hard with Spaghetti Circus in Mullumbimby and Adelaide Circus Master classes. Taking her first trapeze job at Diane Cilento’s Karnak Playhouse, North Queensland in show ‘Illuminartists’. The show ran every week for three months and pushed Emily’s skills to new heights. She returned to the UK to develop her career as a professional aerialist and has since then taken the following training:
